Operations

Contractor 101 — Comprehensive Systems Course

Run the business around the work

Most contractors don't fail because they can't build. They fail because they don't understand how to run the business around the work—they underprice jobs, take on the wrong clients, and get buried in chaos with no system holding things together.

I'll walk you through how to think like a contractor who's actually in control of their operation, not just reacting to whatever shows up next.

What we cover
  • How to use contracts to define the job and avoid gray areas
  • How to handle change orders and documentation so you stay protected
  • How to handle clients so expectations stay clear
  • How to structure your business so it can grow without breaking
  • How jobs, people, and money fit together into a system
  • Introduction to online project management programs

This is the side of contracting most people figure out the hard way. This course gives you a framework you can actually use—whether you're just starting or cleaning up what's already in motion.

Format
Live instruction · Real-world contractor scenarios · Monthly on Saturdays, 8:00 to 10:00 AM (as demand grows)

Plan Reading & Estimating for the New Contractor

See what's in front of you—before you step on site

The plans look straightforward. The job seems clear. Then halfway through you're dealing with scope gaps, finger-pointing, and work you never carried. That's not bad luck—it's a breakdown in how the job was read and defined from the start.

I'll show you how to move through a plan set with intention, spot missing or conflicting information, and protect yourself with clear scope, solid documentation, and clean change orders.

What we cover
  • How to navigate a full plan set without missing critical details
  • How to identify scope gaps and coordination issues before they cost you money
  • How to price work so you make money without losing the job
  • Introduction to online estimating programs and their features

This course is currently not scheduled, but as demand increases it will run monthly.

Format
8 Hours · Live instruction · Real-world examples
